EZ Street Defense

6 Week Course

This program is for individuals that want to learn how to effectively defend themselves in a relatively short period of time. In this program, there are no uniform requirements, no bowing, no belts.

The director, Samuel Scott, has studied arts for over 25 years and has developed this system on the basis of simplicity. As a 14+ year veteran of the Department of Corrections and a member of the Emergency Response Team, he knows what the predator looks for. Psychological preparedness is stressed in this program in order to prepare you for real-life violent confrontation. This includes overcoming fear, developing the killer-instinct, environmental awareness and de-escalation skills.

           EZ Street Defense

You will also learn:

  • Defense against single and multiple attackers
  • Escapes from chokeholds, headlocks and bear-hugs
  • Defense from disadvantageous positions, such as sitting in a chair
  • Finger-touch takedowns
  • Control-holds
  • Defense from the ground
  • Nerve strikes
  • Use of makeshift weapons, such as an umbrella, stick, palm stick, cane, books and pens, to name a few...

Knowing the predator is as important as knowing how to physically defend against him! This is why we place a great deal of emphasis on awareness. All of the martial arts training in the world will not help you if you lack this one key ingredient. In EZ Street Defense, we focus on three (3) types of awareness:

A. Self-awareness
B. Environmental awareness
C. Criminal awareness

Self-awareness is simply an inspection of one's physical, emotional and psychological state --

1. Am I confident?
2. Do I have low self-esteem?
3. Am I short-tempered?
4. Am I aggressive?
5. Am I in good physical shape?
6. Can I effectively defend myself?

Environmental awareness involves knowing your surroundings - home, office, shopping, or social event. You should know the degree of danger. Criminal awareness means understanding the mind of a predator, i.e., what motivates him, what he looks for in his "vic" and knowing where most attacks take place.

Listed below are environmental awareness statistics for you to internalize:

Where do most crimes take place?

The removal of "opportunity" will destroy this victimization triangle. How is opportunity removed? By being consciously aware of your surroundings, and physically and mentally preparing yourself through realistic self-defense training.

Here's the truth: Most people have a predisposition to believe that learning Karate, Kung Fu or other martial arts will teach them how to effectively defend themselves. This simply is not true; worse than that, most practitioners believe that getting a "blackbelt" in their respected discipline ordains them a "self-defense expert". There is no denying the effects martial arts training has on improving confidence, focus, physical technique, or one's knowledge of their arts' culture and tradition - it is an excellent foundation. However, in a heart-pumping, adrenal stress, life-threatening situation, tradition and knowledge of technique will not prevent you from becoming a victim.

As a member of Prince George’s County Correctional Officer’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), this fact became more prevalent to Melenga Scott. He witnessed inmates execute elusive, sneak attacks on one another. Their ability to create weapons out of any and everything was mind-boggling. In real life, there is no squaring off, wearing protective gear, or fighting one-on-one with limited techniques. In the survival game, the only rule is "No Rules". Many martial arts masters traditionally studied their discipline, but are now adding street-effective self-defense into their repertoire.

In this day and time, a false sense of security could cost you your life! At Full Circle, our approach to personal protection is non-conventional. Learning how to use an ink pen in an elevator is just as important as learning how to kick. Remember, personal safety is ultimately your responsibility. Be responsible! If not for you, for your loved ones!

CRIMINAL AWARENESS FACTS

  1. Today you have a greater chance of becoming a victim of a violent crime than of being hurt in a traffic accident.
  2. In one (1) of five (5) robberies, a firearm is discharged.
  3. Fifty-nine percent (59%) of all violent felons awaiting trial were released on our city streets.
  4. Guns and knives are the most common weapons used in robberies.
  5. A rapist's preferred weapon is the knife.
  6. The majority of rapes are premeditated.
  7. Nearly fifty percent (50%) of all rapes occur in the victims own bed.
  8. Approximately half of all violent crimes occur five (5) miles or less from the victims own home.
  9. Robberies are most likely to occur in the months of August and December.
